What’s New in Laser Welding?

After being a flat market for many years, laser welding is growing rapidly, being driven by a variety of factors including a demand for joining new materials and material combinations, more automation, and steep reductions in laser pricing.  Consequently this has resulted in much activity among laser and laser equipment vendors to develop new and innovative technology to address today’s and future welding manufacturing challenges.  Good news for all, but what’s good and worth looking at? The objective of the presentation is to provide a high level overview of the key developments that have been recently brought to market, some production qualified, some a little further out.  The main topics that will be covered are below, and there may be others!
  • Mixed/programmable mode welding addressing previously un-weldable materials with excellent surface finish and almost no spatter
  • Green, blue and hybrid wavelengths for welding conductive metals
  • “The Complete Welding Solution”; plug and play solutions integrating the laser, motion, vision, monitoring & process, software
Come along for this laser welding solutions update briefing as part of the SME’s laser welding workshop! Mixed mode welding: Left picture shows regular fiber laser welding, right hand show mixed mode welding.  Significantly less spatter, and less porosity.  Welds can be made faster and deeper using mixed mode welding.   Hear more from Geoff at FABTECH during his presentation What’s New in Laser Welding”.   Register to attend FABTECH now!
