Finishing Industry Stepping Up to Aid in the Fight Against COVID-19

Just because The Chemical Coaters Association International (CCAI) events were put on hold does not mean business came to a halt!  Quite the contrary.  Many member companies continued operations as an essential business while others participated in projects to assist in the fight against COVID-19 and aid essential employees during this crisis.  We also know our members have celebrated milestones and witnessed terrific stories of kindness and we want to share the news.  Here are just a few examples from our CCAI family: DuBois – CCAI Corporate Member DuBois Chemicals has been producing 40 tons of hand sanitizer a day. Richards – Wilcox – CCAI Corporate Member Richards-Wilcox has transformed their metal fabricating factory into an emergency bed manufacturer. West Michigan Chapter – Sophia Kolst, nine-year-old niece of a West Michigan chapter member wanted to help her mom who is a nurse at Beaumont Hospital in southeast Michigan.  She was scared hearing about the virus, so she started sewing masks. Therma-Tron-X, Inc. – Corporate member Therma-Tron-X, Inc. and Michigan Technological University developed a prototype for a mobile thermal utility sanitizer, an oven that heats contaminated PPE to kill COVID-19. Ivancic Family – Proud moment for CCAI member Sue Ivancic of Nordson Corp.  Her son, Dr. Ryan John Ivancic graduated from The Ohio State University College of Medicine – They had a “virtual” graduation ceremony on April 30, 2020! Congratulations! Alabama Power – Alabama Power’s Technology Applications Center (TAC) partnered with the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham to produce headbands and face shields using their 3D printer and laser-cutting capabilities. The TAC and their Print Shop have been providing approximately 100 complete face shields per day. Kaas Tailored – CCAI corporate member Finishing Consultants shared a story of one of their customers, Kaas Tailored.  They are an upholstered furniture manufacturer for commercial environments.  They have dozens of workers in their sewing department and have diverted production to mask making as part of the 100 Million Mask Challenge. Sharon Rayl – CCAI staff member Sharon turned her sewing room into a mask making facility, personally turning out over 200 masks for local hospital, nursing home, and hospice facilities as well as family and friends.
