W5: Best Practices for Welding Apprenticeships

  • Date

  • Time

Overview

As the skilled welding workforce ages out and demand for qualified welders keeps climbing, more companies are turning to apprenticeship programs. But welding apprenticeships aren't one-size-fits-all, and getting the design wrong is costly. This panel brings together experienced program leaders for an honest look at what it actually takes to train a welder from entry-level to journey-level.

Panelists will dig into what makes their programs work, from structuring shop-floor mentorship and aligning training with national standards, to the practical trade-offs behind key design decisions and what actually drives retention once an apprentice is on the floor.
Attendees will leave with practices they can realistically implement at their own shop, along with a look at how the AWS Foundation can help save time and money along the way.
